Buyers driven by a desire for larger homes with dedicated spaces for working and schooling fueled existing home sales of 5.64 million units in 2020 – the most since 2006. Experts say that the level of existing home sales could have been even higher had there been enough available inventory on the market. There were just 1.07 million homes for sale at the end of December, which was 23% less than the prior year-ending inventory level.
